  4. Wow! Sounds like an amazing trip and the Brown family will be excited to follow along as you make your journey. We made a family trip via Amtrak in 2007 to Indiana for a family reunion, traveling from Charlottesville, VA to Indianapolis, IN and back. Here are a few tips for the trip, specifically in the packing which you must be doing now: Pack earplugs! The train will blow the whistle at EVERY crossing along the way, regardless of the time of day! We had a hard time sleeping in the seats and did not expect the constant whistle-blowing! Bring layers to wear on the train and/or a comfy blanket. They kept the air-conditioning cranked up so high during the summer that we were freezing for most of the trip…we packed for the outdoor weather, not frigid passenger train temps for which we had NO control. :) They do have blankets, but I remember them being rather scratchy. We all said that if we decided to do it again, we would spend the extra money on the sleeper car and bring the above-mentioned items. ;)
Best of luck to Frick and Frack for a safe and memorable journey!
